Pokhara University (PoU), 1997 was established under Pokhara University Act, 1997. The central office of the university is situated in Western Development Region 13km east-side from the Pokhara city. Pokhara University was formed as a part of the government’s policy for better higher education, just like the Purbanchal University. The Respected Prime Minister and Minister of Education are called the Chancellor and the Pro-Chancellor respectively. The chancellor of Pokhara University appoints the vice-chancellor and principal executive officer for the university. Similarly, the Registrar is appointed to assist them in financial management and general administration. Pokhara University runs under government’s funds and affiliated collage’s turn over income and is a non-profit institution.
Under Pokhara University, the undergraduate/bachelor’s degree program is of four years divided in eight semesters and the Master Degree is of two years divided into four semesters. The Masters of Philosophy (M.Phil) degree is of one and half year program containing three semesters.
